Beat the polar vortex with this delicious, body-warming hot cocoa recipe!
4 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
1. Heat milk in small pot or saucepan until hot (but not boiling)
2. Add remaining ingredients and stir with whisk until smooth
3. Pour and serve
I just made this very simple face scrub (only three ingredients – sugar, olive oil, and honey), and after trying it my face feels fabulous! According to an article written by the editors of PureHealthMD for Discovery Health (health.discovery.com), “Raw, unheated, organic honey has antibacterial properties that speed the healing of infections and wounds, including acne. It also contains antioxidants, which neutralize free radicals to promote healthy skin. Honey also improves skin hydration, an important factor in the skin’s ability to maintain softness, suppleness and elasticity.” The olive oil in this recipe acts as a natural moisturizer, while the sugar exfoliates the skin.
1. Pour 1/8 cup of sugar into a bowl
2. Add 2 tsp. olive oil
3. Pour 2 tsp. honey into the sugar/olive oil mixture (use raw, organic honey for the added skin benefits described above)
4. Stir ingredients together
Once finished, I scooped part of the mixture with my fingertips and ran a small amount of water over it to soften it up before scrubbing my face. I even have a little left over that I will store and use tomorrow morning. Be careful not to store homemade bath products for too long, as they are often perishable.
I love, love, love roasted garlic!
Here’s another super simple how-to recipe for anyone who doesn’t know just how beautifully easy it is to roast garlic. If you haven’t had it before, imagine a creamy, much more mellow version of garlic that is soft enough to spread over crusty crunchy bread or whip into mashed potatoes. It’s a treat, it takes less than five minutes of prep time, and it makes your kitchen smell amazing.
You can even make it ahead of time, which is ideal for mashed potatoes on occasions like Thanksgiving when the oven is reserved. However—ahem—it’s probably not ideal for occasions like a first date. Do you have a favorite way to indulge in roasted garlic?
